Pensioners can earn unlimited on the side from January 1, 2015
No more limits on maximum amounts to be earned additionally
The Council of Ministers of November 7 has adopted the legislative proposals and proposed Royal Decrees which ensure that the maximum amounts allowed for the earned income that may be cumulated with the pension be abolished from 1 January 2015 onwards.
This allows a retiree older than 65 years to extra earn unlimited from then. The same goes for pensioners who have completed a professional career of 45 years, even if they have not reached the legal retirement age yet.
To earn unlimited today one must be 65 years and have a career of 42 years behind. If you do not meet these conditions, a retiree of 65 years may only earn € 22,293 as an employee (or € 27,177 with dependent children) and € 17,835 as an independent (or € 21,694 with dependent children). These limits expire from January 1th 2015 onwards for those who are 65 or older or have had a professional career of 45 years.
Daniel Bacquelaine, Minister of Pensions: "I am pleased to notice that the commitment taken by the government to remove the limits on permitted labour will take shape early next year. This measure will facilitate the choice of elder workers who wish to pursue a professional activity after the age of 65 or after a professional career of 45 years, and all this while integrally retaining their pension."
